I am an experienced 13 year teaching veteran with two Bachelors Degrees, one in Studio Arts and one in Art History. I also hold a Masters Degree in Education. I am currently a licensed Master Educator in Missouri. I am prepared to excel within your district using: 1. My extensive knowledge of art curriculum design and implementation, 2. My dedication to teaching through relationships, and 3. My proven track record for excellence in classroom management, pro-actively, through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and re-actively when necessary, using BIST and Boystown Behavior Management. I approach curriculum with a Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) pedagogy that is student focused, and harnesses problem-based learning. Lastly, I love to facilitate technology in the classroom by using applications that help students document their growth and learning, as well as experience art production from a digital perspective.
I am an outstanding teacher, and I believe that culturally and socio-economically diverse students need outstanding teachers. Most importantly, outstanding teachers thrive in environments where they can truly make a difference, not just exist. I currently teach in a school with a population of 800 students where over half of them are considered low income. In addition to this, there is a high rate of homelessness and transiency. I have previous experience teaching 700 urban, inner city students in a Title 1 school that represents a student population of 50% minorities. I teach the elements of art, art history, and techniques and methods of: mixed media, drawing, painting, fiber, and sculpture. I have pervasive experience instructing the visual arts to at-risk youth in both urban and rural environments.
I have a comprehensive knowledge of art instruction, and classroom management, for self-contained special education, students with ED/BD, at-risk youth including homeless, low income, minority, and bi-lingual. I have a passion, and proven track record, for excelling in classroom management practices, including Boystown Behavior Management, BIST, and PBIS. I have often been referred to as a "Superstar" through District Administration documentation during Boystown Behavior Management school fidelity checks, and am currently in a leadership role for our school's Tier 2 PBIS behavior intervention team.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities I also: 1. Co-curate the district art show , 2. Create and give PBIS presentations for district professional development activities, 3. Host Art on the Prairie after-school art club.
